Education is a central benchmark for our nation’s ability to sustain domestic and international competitiveness. Past and recent studies, however, consistently demonstrate a gap in educational achievement by Latinos in the United States. Despite concerted efforts since the 1960’s in school reform, teacher training, curriculum improvement and parental involvement, the educational achievement alarm rings even louder today. The pending change in the political and social landscape summons all of us to extend beyond entrenched organizational and institutional rhetoric. We must engage in policies and practices to expand and strengthen the social network of resources needed to improve Latino education in this era of change.
This event brings together school administrators, teachers, academics, policymakers, government affairs officials, parents, and representatives of the media, higher education, non-profit organizations, direct service organizations, community-based organizations, businesses, along with other concerned stakeholders to share ideas, findings, recommendations, and implementable solutions.
